Editorial review: November 2026NAD⁺ plays central roles in cellular redox reactions and enzymatic processes. Mitochondria are central to bioenergetics and cellular signalling.
Electron transport, oxidative stress responses, metabolic regulation and mitochondrial quality control are active research areas.
Some NAD⁺ precursors and mitochondria-targeted approaches show biochemical and functional effects in animal models.
Certain precursors can increase NAD-related biomarkers in humans, yet consistent clinical benefit for functional outcomes, ageing or disease is not established.
A biomarker change is not the same as clinical benefit. Long-term outcomes, responder populations and administration routes remain uncertain.
